The 2010 movie season is done, now on to the Coolest Movie Trailers of 2011... Here they are so far:
Battle: Los Angeles (Trailer) March 11
I like the fact that this trailer is in a different style from most trailers even though the plot has been overdone.
The Tree of Life (Trailer) May 27
Director Terrence Malick back at it again... It'll probably long and boring and overtly poetic, but this trailer makes me a little teary eyed...
Super 8 (Teaser) June 6
Perfect Teaser, doesn't show a lot, but keeps us very interested. Name dropping J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg helps a little too.
Super 8 (Trailer) June 6
I was skeptical about seeing a full trailer that told more about the movie... however, this just makes me want to see Super 8 more even though it looks heavily influenced by Spielberg...
Cowboys and Aliens (Trailer) July 29
Awesome, a western, with some aliens? what? Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford, Olivia Wilde and directed by Jon Favreau... no way... Spielberg's name on this too?

5 Reasons Why Twilight is Good for Guys |

We all know girls all over the world rave about the Twilight franchise as if it were the among the greatest stories every told. They swoon and lust after Edward and Jacob while you, the boyfriends, roll your eyes in disgust. This would be all a different story if the movies were actually any good right? We are going to have to endure this phenomenon for the next few years so rather than complaining we might as well learn something from it. Here are 5 reasons why the Twilight franchise is good for us men.
1) Hitting the Gym
Seriously, after watching these films, especially New Moon, what girl is gonna want to go out with a slob. They say two thirds of Americans are over-weight, and this is a good motivational tool (albeit image conscious one) to get up off the couch and burn calories so we can look like their beloved vampire or wolf boy. Thus, all leading to a healthier society. Hey, we always wanted those 6-pack abs anyway right?
2) In Touch with Sensitive Side.
Times are changing people. Gone are the days of the rugged, tough, macho guys. This generation's man is sensitive. But not too sensitive, obviously... we still want to play for the same team (well some of you anyway). We just have to learn to define a line between our sensitivity and the fact that we will still fight for our woman... battling whatever comes our way: wolves, vampires, dragons (oh wait, there's no dragons in this franchise).
3) You'll get Laid More.
Come on... your girlfriend knows you hate this whole Twilight phenomenon (if you love this franchise, then I don't know what to say to you) and if you go see it with her, that's definitely bonus points in the bedroom, if you know what I mean.
4) Mysterious is still in.
Being tall, dark and mysterious is still the norm. Edward barely says much in the movie, but wins over Bella easily. It's all through subtle communication. Thus, we can learn more psychological dynamics that engage a girl with the littlest but most poignant of clues, leaving her wanting more. Just don't be a crazed-mute-stalker... unless you want mace in your face. This option probably wouldn't work either if you weren't appealing to the eyes in some way... so work on number one.
5) Puts your mind at ease...
...Knowing your girl is at a Twilight event than anywhere else. Going to a Twilight screening/event vs a night on the town with the girls?.. You can be rest assured a Twilight event, because, well... the Twilight fan base is girls. Even if there were guys at Twilight events what kind of girl would consider going out with a guy that's in love with Twilight (Although this might not hold true if your girlfriend meets and hits it off with Robert Pattinson; Yup, you're pretty much doomed).
8 Reasons why Twilight is the BEST movie franchise ever (from a studio's point of view)

The 10 Best Movies of the Decade |

The 10 Best Movies of the Decade 2000 - 2009
My 10 Best Movies of the Decade
It was my most extensive undertaking since starting this website. It was fun, and it required the most work out of any of the posts I've done here. A month after opening the poll, all the votes are in and everything is tallied up.
"50 million of you voted," well... not quite that much but thank you to all those of you who did participate in this Ten Best Movies of the Decade poll.
How the best movies were calculated...
I asked you to rank your ten favorite movies in order so I could gather a point system structure, where the highest rating gets the highest amount of points possible (in case there would be a "dealer push" situation with a tie of the number of votes between films). For some of you who didn't put it in order, each of your films were pro-rated with an equally averaged amount of points.
Anyways, enough of the boring accounting structure and on to the 10 Best Movies of the Decade. Thanks again to all that have voted... Here are the---
The 10 Best movies of the Decade, from 2000 - 2009, as voted by you.
10) Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
J.R.R. Tolkien's final chapter in the Lord of the Rings trilogy proved to be the highest ranked of the bunch, closely followed by The Fellowship of the Ring. On another note, director Peter Jackson's The Return of the King is the only film of the Lord of the Rings trilogy to also win Best Picture at the Academy Awards.
9) There Will Be Blood (2007)
Some consider There Will Be Blood, director Paul Thomas Anderson's masterpiece and also the best American film of the decade. Daniel Day Lewis' performance alone makes it a must see movie. Orsen Welles, anyone? However, there is another American cinematic film that is ranked higher. Ooooh! What could that be?
8) Donnie Darko (2001)
Director Richard Kelly's best film by far... as all his films post Donnie Darko, haven't exactly acquired the same cult following. Speaking of cult following, Donnie Darko is the only film on the list that has benefited greatly from it's cult status.
7) Avatar (2009)
I was not surprised that people liked this movie, but I was surprised that people liked this movie "a-whole-lot." Well, I guess the highest-grossing movie in the world had to rank on the list somewhere. James Cameron's only film in a decade proved to be his most successful and all that was needed to make this list.
6) WALL-E (2008)
The only Pixar movie to make this list (Monster's Inc was just outside the top 10). When compiling the results, I noticed that the people that did vote for WALL-E ranked it really high in their list, which is probably why WALL-E is ranked above any other Pixar film that came out in the past decade.
5) Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Pan's Labyrinth is the second of two non-english speaking films to make it on this list (the third would be City of God, actually I think it's number 11). El Laberinto del Fauno, as it's also called, is Guillermo del Toro's best work to date and let's hope that Hobbit movie he's working on with Peter Jackson, works out well.
4) No Country for Old Men (2007)
This is the other American cinematic masterpiece I was talking about. Yes, the Coen Brothers' Academy Award winning, modern western, made it on this list. When compiling the results for No Country for Old Men, I noticed that most people ranked it in the low end of most of their lists. However, No Country for Old Men did manage to make it on a lot of lists. So that is why it ranks so high on this list.
3) Amélie (2001)
Or what is known as Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain (that took a while to type since I don't know French). Amélie is the highest ranked non-english speaking film, as it appeared on a lot of lists. However, not one of them managed to score a number one spot. Most of the rankings for Amélie appeared in the middle range of lists which was good enough to beat out No Country for Old Men.
2) District 9 (2009)
Surprise! Well... I was... Yes, I was surprised to see this at number two. I was unaware that people like this movie a lot. It appeared on many lists and most of them ranked District 9 in the top three. Thus, garnering a lot of points alongside its many votes.
Drum Roll Please!!!
And the Best Film of the Decade 2000 - 2009 is.....
1) The Dark Knight (2008)
This was by far the film that appeared on the most lists... No other film was close. It was pretty much a shoe-in from my first week of opening the poll. Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight also scored the highest amount of points. The odd thing is, with it's numerous number of votes, there was not a number one ranking on any of the lists compiled. Although, on some of the lists were pretty darn close.
So there you have it folks, The Dark Knight is the Best Film of the Decade 2000 - 2009, as voted by you. Thanks to all of you that voted. And there better not be any complainers because I did hold this open to the public. Anyways, if you didn't vote, there's always next year... I mean next decade.

Best Movies of 2009 |

Well, 2009 is over and it is now awards season. It's also the season for for lists to come out, and why not release my top movies of 2009. Here are my favorite movies of 2009.
*Note that I haven't seen Precious, which may alter this list after I see them. So for now, here are the current standings.
9) Inglourious Basterds
A good solid film, with great characters. Tarantino's Spagetti-western influences makes for an uniquely entertaining film about a gonzo group of American soldiers in Nazi-occupied France. This is definitely a step up from his last movie.
8) District 9
Despite some problems I have with this film, I feel this is a unique take on the science fiction genre, and particularly well made docu-cinema with good visual effects based off of it's low-budget.
7) Food Inc.
An interesting look into where our food comes from. This is basically the book Fast Food Nation turned into a documentary (and I understand that there is actually a Fast Food Nation movie). Lot's of eww, and gross moments but still real and deserving.
6) Avatar
Where, oh, where was this going to be on my list? Yes, it's Dances with Wolves and Pocahontas, with blue people, and lots of predictable and "just in the nick of time" moments. However, it is an astonishing technological achievement, that's not loud and annoying like Transformers 2. It is not the best movie out there, but manages to fulfill a sentimental value and also ass-kicking action, particularly the end sequence with the Colonel.
5) (500) Days of Summer
Yes, I sapped up. A story that touches the heart of the many who has ever fallin' in love with the person who thought was the one. Awe... It is heartbreakingly more realistic than most Hollywood movies where the oddly perfect couple ends up with each other.
4) Sin Nombre
Not exactly an upbeat film. However, it opens your eyes to what's going on just beyond the border and the will it takes to get into the United States.
3) Star Trek
I'm not a Star Trek fan so I was equally impressed that this reboot managed to work on a lot of levels. There's still the Star Trek geek-dome associated within this movie, however, J.J. Abrahms did a great job of defining it for a larger audience.
2) The Hangover
I wasn't expecting much going into this movie and I came out of the theater laughing. Definitely the funniest movie of the year and I am glad that this won a Golden Globe for best Comedy (which is more of a true comedy instead of it usually going to a dramatic-comedy or a musical).
and Drum Roll please.....
1) Up In The Air
A well made film, from the director of Juno and Thank You For Smoking, that's both funny and poignant. The writing is especially well, in that it is sharp and quick witted. The film also manages to take a personal look into the current dilemma happening in modern economical society. Up in the Air will be looked back upon as the one film that defines life in the first decade of the new millennium.

Box Office Flops of 2009 |
2009 was filled with great success and also with great failure. And although there were no major, multi-million dollar movies that failed to even crack the million dollar mark (ie: Delgo; cost $40 million, made just under $1 million), or big budget motion pictures that bankrupted a studio (2001's Final Fantasy movie cost $137 million and only made $85 worldwide, bankrupting newly created Square Pictures), there were a lot of movies that did much less than expected.
It was actually hard making a top ten because a lot of these movies are very close in the ink of red. Also, if you account for the fact that a movie studio's revenues is averaged out to about 55% of the box office receipts, then we may have a lot more box office disappointments. Anyways, here are the top ten box office duds, flops, bombs... whatever you may call it... of 2009.
2008 Box office Flops
10) Did You Hear About the Morgans?
Budget: $58 million
Domestic Gross: $28.7 million
Total: $29.2 million as of 01/18/10
Taking in about half of a $58 million budgeted movie is never a good sign for a studio. Hugh Grant's witty English charm, and Sarah Jessica Parker's Sex and the City following couldn't get this movie to find an audience.
9) Taking Woodstock
Budget: $30 million
Domestic Gross: $7.5 million
International Gross: $2.5 million
Total Gross: $9.9
Poor Ang Lee... one of the great directors of our time. And yet, no one knew he made this dramedy about Woodstock.
8) Where the Wild Things Are
Budget: $100 million
Domestic Gross: $76.9 million
Total Gross: $76.9 million
Yes, this movie may have a strong cult following on DVD or Blu-ray (this is why this isn't higher on my list) because of its internal message and also because of the fact that most people really like it or hate it. However, after years of production and major reshoots, this $100 million Spike Jonze film, failed to find an audience at the box office.
7) Pandorum
Budget $40 million
Domestic Gross: $10.3 million
International Gross: $3 million
Total Gross: $13.3 million
I remember this movie having lots of buzz on the internet, almost as much as that Paranormal Activity movie. However, when Pandorum was finally released in theaters, all that fan buzz never really amounted to money at the box office. People would rather just sit and talk about movies on the internet than actually see it.
6) Outlander
Budget: $50 million
Domestic Gross: $166 thousand
International Gross: $6.1 million
Total Gross: $6.3 million
I've never heard of this movie until I began making this list. I know... me never hearing of a $50 million movie from 2009? That's uncanny. I guess the studios didn't find it worthy enough to be marketed to the public. Outlander is probably this year's Delgo, if I had to pick one.
5) Imagine That
Budget: $55 million
Domestic Gross: $16.1 million
International Gross: $2.2 million
Total Gross: $18.3 million
Eddie Murphy, what the hell are you doing? I know you must be making money from these movies as I saw you on the Forbes highest paid celebrities in the past year... but come on.
4) Astro Boy
Budget: $65 million
Domestic Gross: $19.5 million
International Gross: $1.7 million
Total Gross: $21.2 million
Nicholas Cage movies either hit, or miss terribly. This is the case for his Astro Boy as it will join the ranks of recent Cage misses as did Bangkok Dangerous, Next, and Wicker Man. It's a good thing that the production company, Summit, has the Twilight franchise.
3) Surrogates
Budget: $80 million
Domestic Gross: $38.6 million
International Gross: $22 million
Total Gross: $60.6 million
This looked like a cool idea with a mix of I, Robot, and Phillip K Dick stories. However, the trailer made it seem very bland for a sci-fi action film. Even with Bruce Willis in the mix, Surrogates failed to find an audience.
2) Land of the Lost
Budget: $100 million
Domestic Gross: $49.4 million
International Gross: $19.3 million
Total Gross: $68.7 million
This is the first Will Ferrell movie that had a huge budget coped with lots of visual effects. I actually thought this would've been a great movie because of it's weird mix of comedy and adventure. Apparently, I was wrong. Now, it sits in my Netflix que constantly being push to the bottom as other new movies keep being released.
1) Nine
Budget: $80 million
Domestic Gross: $18.3 million as of 01/18/10
Total Gross: $18.3
This might be to early to call, because if it gets nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, then it might find an audience (although, all its Golden Globe nods didn't really help it's box office). Unlike Rob Marshall's other film, Chicago, Nine is off to a very slow start (probably due to its release date, pitting it against Avatar, Sherlock Holmes, Alvin and the Chipmunks 2, and the list goes on), and reviews have also been less than stellar.
Honorable Mention:
Pirate Radio: Budget: $50 million; Total Gross: $36.3 million
Whiteout: Budget: $35 million; Total Gross: $12.2 million
Amelia: Budget: $40 million; Total Gross: $19.2 million
The Box: Budget: $30 million; Total Gross: $15 million
Planet 51: Budget: $70 million; Total Gross: $39.7 million

My Best Movies of the Decade 2000-2009 |
Well, since everyone else is doing a list, why not make mine. Here's my list of the best movies of the past decade. I also wanted to add that a lot of Pixar movies dominated my top 25 and it was hard choosing which ones would make the top 10. I also can't believe its been 10 years already... The Matrix and Fight Club can't climb aboard because they were a different decade. Yup we're becoming old farts.
I'm also doing a poll of your 10 best films of the decade Click Here and participate.
Anyways, here's my top 10 from 2000 - 2009.
10) Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Guillermo Del Toro's best work by far, and it's not even a big budgeted Hollywood movie that we're used to seeing from him. It's a child's fantasy movie for adults, as it contrasts between her surreal world and the violent realism that she lives in.
9) Into the Wild (2007)
I was expecting this movie to be long and slow. And it was... however, it's also one of those movies that captures the essence of life so well that it stays with in your brain well after it's over. Sean Penn directs a great film that has a lot to say about life.
8) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (2003)
I had to put one of these on here. Not essentially a movie that I'd watch over and over again (probably because of its length), but it's a well made, epic, adventure.
7) Moulin Rouge!(2001)
It's like watching a romantic love story while trippin' on acid and other hallucinogens thanks to director Baz Luhrmann. Very entertaining and unique film about love.
6) Amélie (2001)
Wasn't really expecting much from this movie, then I saw it and thought it was smart, witty, cute, and visually impressive thanks, to the style of director Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Audrey Tatou makes an unforgettable performance as Amélie.
5) City of God (2002)
A great, mind opening film about life in the favelas of Brazil. The cinéma vérité style of filmmaking creates a sense of realism that pulls you in immediately into the constuct and harsh nature of this world.
4) Monster's Inc. (2001)
Pixar proved that they weren't all just about Toy Story. Sure there are many other great Pixar movies, but Monster's Inc. was the first release that proved they could flesh out new stories and adventures (besides Toy Story) that would help them capture an even wider audience.
3) The Dark Knight (2008)
In the age where comic book movies are all action and littered with wall to wall visual FX, Christopher Nolan takes it to the next level by telling a solid story with a memorable villain.
2) Minority Report (2002)
This is one of Steven Spielberg's best movies and is probably Tom Cruise's best film to date. It is smart, action packed, and slick... The story is uniquely thought-provoking and deals a lot with the ethical nature of human beings. I think it is one of the best science fiction films out there. It was actually a flip between this and my number one film.
Now, Drum Roll please....
1) The Incredibles (2004)
Yes, a Pixar movie tops the list. I think this is a very well done, witty film that pretty much encapsulates the decade of superheros. Brad Bird is a great filmmaker (Ratatouille was just outside my top 10) his screenplays are both smart and imaginative. It's a kids movie. It's an adult movie. And it has me still fantasizing about being a kid and playing a superhero.

6 Unexpected Box Office Hits of 2009 |
2009 is wrapping up and now is a time to take a look back at the movies that no one expected to do as well as they did. The unexpected box-office hits of 2009... some may even call them surprise hit movies.
Paul Blart: Mall Cop
Budget: $26 million
Domestic Gross: $146.3 million
It was mid-January when this mediocre comedy took charge of the box-office as there was no competition in its way.
Taken
Budget: $25 million
Domestic Gross: $145 million
A couple of weeks after Paul Blart, who knew Liam Neeson could star in an ass-kicking hit movie.
The Hangover
Budget: $35 million
Domestic Gross: $277.3 million
A low-budget movie with no big stars trumped a $100 million Will Ferrell movie that came out the same weekend. The Hangover has gone on to become the highest grossing comedy of all time and so far has garnered almost $460 million worldwide.
District 9
Budget: $30 million
Domestic Gross: $115.6 million
It's mid-August and the summer movie line up is dying down. In comes in this low-budget sci-fi movie that garners a lot of web buzz and becomes one of the most interesting sci-fi movies in recent times.
Paranormal Activity
Budget: $15,000
Domestic Gross: $107.7 million
A movie made for less than the price of a car gets picked up by a studio, who decides to reshoot it and make it into a studio movie. But before they could reshoot it, the buzz on the original, DV version, garners so much buzz, that they decide to release it while also getting Spielberg to write a new ending for it. Paranormal Activity becomes the most profitable movie according to percentage returns.
The Blind Side
Budget: $29 million
Domestic Gross: $184.4 million (as of 12/28/09)
A formulaic but heartfelt and feel-good movie that came out at a time when the public wanted to see it. I don't think anyone expected this movie to do this well.

Coolest Movie Trailers of 2010 |
Well, it's never to early to start promoting 2010. And so far these are the coolest looking movies (well from their trailers that is) of 2010.
Alice In Wonderland March 5
Some people don't like this trailer because there is too much... ahem... visual effects. "Blasphemy!" I say... However, I still like Tim Burton's style.
Kick-Ass (Hit Girl Trailer) April 16
I saw the first trailer and thought, it looks like it might okay. Then, I saw this red band trailer and was like, "I gotta see this movie now." Yeah its red band so...
Warning: If you're underage ask your parents first before watching.
Inception July 16
I would totally see this movie if this was the only trailer they ever released. The Christopher Nolan trailer leaves you wanting to know more.
Inception (Trailer B) July 16
Well, they decided to release a second trailer, and although it reveals more it still leaves you curious. Hey, I'm not biasing this list on a certain movie, it's a bad-ass trailer.
The Expendables Aug 13
It's just awesome to see all these action stars in one movie. Even a Planet Hollywood reunion.
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Trailer B) Aug 13
I like the idea and the quirkiness of this film. Also, Edgar Wright directing (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) helps a little bit.
Tron Legacy December 17
One of the coolest movie trailers I've seen in years. I didn't know what to expect with this film, and now it is on top of my list of movies to see. I just hope the actual movie will meet the high expectations (like all movies with high expectations).
Tron Legacy (Trailer) December 17
This still looks awesome.
True Grit (Feature Trailer) December 25
Looks to be an awesome western movie...

5 Reasons Why James Cameron's Avatar Is Gonna Kick Ass |
With James Cameron's largely hyped Avatar about 5 months away from hitting theaters, I've decided to sit down and hype this movie even more. Yes, I've heard this guy is a douche bag, but he makes great movies. So in honor, here are 5 reasons why James Cameron's new movie, Avatar, will kick box office ass.
1) It's Been 12 Years.
Yes, It's been 12 years since James Cameron's last motion picture... A small, indie pic, called Titanic, I think it was called. It's still unbelievable that no movie has come close to it's $1.8 billion snag, in the twelve years since.
2) $300 million Budget.
Well, rumored so far, anyway. He was the first to make a $100 million movie with Terminator 2, the first to make a $200 million movie, with Titanic. Now he is treading the $300 million mark. The only movie that has that title so far is Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Yes, I know that movie was all over the place and Spiderman 3's $258 million budget didn't really constitute a good movie either). However, this is a James Cameron movie, so there.
Update: Yahoo! puts Avatar's budget around $237 million.
3) 3D - Tech.
A good portion of the money on this movie went directly into creating new 3D technology for the film. Supposedly the most advanced and state-of-the-art equipment. Raising the bar on performance capture, that was used in films like Beowulf and The Polar Express. However, this new technology seamlessly blends live action with computerized animation, unlike those movies mentioned, where it is entirely digital. Some people who were lucky enough to view clips from the movie, have found it the most innovative looking movie in years, or maybe ever.
4) Word of Mouth.
There's no trailer out so far (not even a teaser) and the movie is a mere 5 months away from being released. Despite this, the word of mouth has been huge. (Word on the street is that Fox plans to debut a trailer come August 21) Caused me even to blog about it. Many people say this will "change the way films are made." We'll have to just wait and see about that.
UPDATE: Trailer is here!!!!
5) It's a James Cameron Movie.
Come on, this guy did Terminator, Aliens, Terminator 2, The Abyss, True Lies (I liked it), and that ship movie. There will be a slim chance that this will blow.

8 Bad-Ass Movie Trailers of 2009 |
You know what I'm talking about... These are the best movie trailers of 2009 (so far), that make me actually want to go out an see the movie. Sorry for those of you that like X-Men Origins: Wolverine or G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, they really didn't do anything for me.
Watchmen (Feature Trailer)
A damn cool trailer, very slick and stylish. Unfortunately, I still have yet to see the movie, since I've heard some mediocre reviews from it. Yes, I know the first trailer worked well with the Smashing Pumpkins song. However, this trailer explains a bit more and makes great use of a Muse song.
Star Trek (Feature Trailer)
I am not really a Star Trek fan, but this trailer looks like a big action-packed movie, somewhat of a leap from the Star Trek of the past.
Terminator Salvation (Trailer B)
The first couple of trailers to this film, I wasn't that impressed. I was like, "McG directing a Terminator... uh oh." However, this trailer has impressive visual effects and shows that it might be a bad-ass action movie.
Transformers Revenge of the Fallen (Teaser Trailer)
The other robot move. Michael Bay seems to know how to make big, kick-ass trailers. This just reminds you about all the visual effects in the first Transformers movie, and how they're spending more money to make it bigger and badder.
Land of the Lost
I didn't know what to expect of this movie when I first heard they were remaking it. After watching this trailer, it looks like a fun, entertaining Summer film.
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince (Trailer C)
This trailer for the latest Harry Potter, inches on the dark and tad bit scary... Awesome. Are kids really going to watch this film now?
Where the Wild Things Are
Child at heart... Spike Jonze. One of my most anticipated movies of the year.
The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Heath Ledger's final film. Terry Gilliam's imagination runs wild here.

10 Most Disappointing Movie Trilogies |
Have you ever enjoyed a movie and then were so excited they turned it into a franchise, but after watching them, you were sorely disappointed. Sometimes, you wish they just kept it as one movie, or maybe that third film in the series totally ruined something great. Since there are many lists of the best movie trilogies (Including mine) I've decided to make a list of the 10 most disappointing movie trilogies. And here they are:
10) The Godfather Trilogy.
Yes, I know some of you may disagree. But there is no hiding the fact that the first two are classic masterpieces, and the third, well... It's okay, and it does round out the Corleone story, but it is surely not on par with the first two.
9) Shrek Trilogy.
The first Shrek, I enjoyed. And I actually found its sequel to be enjoyable as well. However, in Shrek The Third, the "same formula, same jokes" routine, is getting kind of old. This just makes me wonder if Dreamworks is going to take this acknowledgment for the fourth and fifth films, or is the Shrek franchise going to continue its downhill streak.
8) Ocean's Trilogy.
I thought Ocean's Eleven was great; a cool, slick heist movie with great characters and great plot twists. Probably one of the best films to come out that year. Ocean's Twelve was forgettable. And Ocean's Thirteen? Al Pacino was great, but come on... each sequel they add, gets less and less interesting.
7) Mad Max Trilogy.
The first Mad Max is a classic. The Road Warrior turned out to be an even better classic, setting the example of how post-apocalyptic movies should be. So what can be more astounding by adding a third and final to the trilogy? Well... hold your horses, Beyond Thunderdome didn't exactly turn out to be the film we all wanted; very weird and somewhat random, almost like it is a totally different movie from the rest of the franchise. Ooh man...
6) Beverly Hills Cop Trilogy.
Growing up in the 80's, the Beverly Hills Cop movies were the staples of my movie childhood. Then came the third... Beverly Hills Cop 3. What the hell was that? They couldn't even use the real name of the theme park (Great America), and obviously shot on a few Universal Studios Tour attractions. Oh yeah, the plot was horrendous too.
5) Jurassic Park Trilogy.
Jurassic Park is one of my favorite movies ever. So based on that, I was extremely hyped to see The Lost World. However, I was led to be disappointed. Spielberg, no!!! It can't be. Some of the sequences and shots were amazing, but as an entire movie, I was disappointed very much. Subsequently only about 2 percent of the book made it into the movie. As for Jurassic Park 3, yeah... Let's say I don't remember anything from that movie.
4) Spiderman Trilogy.
I thought the first Spiderman was okay. Spiderman 2 was good... even though it has the same storyline as the first movie. With the success of the first two, it looked like the Spiderman franchise was rolling uphill. And the third would be the next logical step upwards, right? Umm.. unfortunately not. Too much antagonists and random plot lines thrown in there just to please the studio. Argghh!
3) Hannibal Lector Trilogy.
Silence of the Lambs is a great movie all around. A standard Oscar classic masterpiece. Hannibal, kind of verges on the line of ridiculous. And Red Dragon... damn it!!! lots of great actors in this movie, but giving them nothing of importance. A shame...
2) The Matrix Trilogy.
The Matrix is a mind blowing film; so cool and unique for its time. Matrix Reloaded runs a bit long and bloated, while computerized Neo looked very computerish. It was cheesy and over the top. So it was forgivable, especially if the third got us back into the grunt of it all, then it would make sense. However, even though Matrix Revolutions has great visual effects, it just turned into another boring and flat, epic war "save the world," type of movie. Turning away from the slick and coolness of the first one.
1) Star Wars Trilogy (Episode 1 to 3)
You probably already knew this was number one before you even looked. So much hype. Damn it George Lucas. From Jar Jar Binks, to the horribly flat dialogue, to not giving Darth Maul enough screen time... We kept hoping the next episode would get even better because the trilogy is getting darker, thus more dept in character and action. But no; Lucas even manages to make Darth Vader look like a sissy in the final chapter... This is stressful.
