The Karate Kid Chops Up the Box Office

Finally, a positive sign at this Summer's box office as The Karate Kid reboot managed to punch, kick and chop it's way to the top. It surprisingly made about $56 million, much higher than most industry analysts predictions. This has given a jolt at this Summer's box office, which has, for the most part, remained relatively mediocre in terms of numbers. This is a good sign that next weekend will be huge, as the long awaited family flick Toy Story 3, hits theaters.

Oh yeah, The A-Team, didn't do as well as expected despite a grand premiere event which included the stars rolling up in a tank.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. The Karate Kid: $56 million ($56 million total) Budget: $40 million
  2. The A-Team: $26 million ($26 million total) Budget: $110 million
  3. Shrek Forever After: $15.8 million ($210.1 million total) Budget: $165 million
  4. Get Him to The Greek: $10.1 million ($36.5 million total) Budget: $40 million
  5. Killers: $8.2 million ($30.7 million total) Budget: $75 million

Previous post-----
A couple of 80's nostalgia movies hit theaters this weekend, hoping to make some money in the sloping Hollywood Summer.

The A-Team
Why it might be a hit: 80s TV nostalgia.
Why it might tank: Mr. T said he "doesn't like it."

The Karate Kid

Why it might be a hit: Looks like a good family flick.
Why it might tank: Shouldn't it be called The Kung Fu Kid because isn't he learning Kung Fu?

My Predictions:
The A-Team: $37 million
The Karate Kid: $18
Shrek Forever After: $15 million
Get Him to The Greek: $10 million
Killers: $8 million
