The American Takes Labor Day Weekend

In a pretty boring Labor Day weekend, George Clooney's The American, managed to take the top spot at the box office. While Drew Barrymore and Justin Long's, Going the Distance picked up much less than expected.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. The American: $13 million ($16.1 million total) Budget: n/a
  2. Takers: $11.5 million ($37.9 million total) Budget: $32 million
  3. Machete: $11.3 million ($11.3 million total) Budget: n/a
  4. The Last Exorcism: $7.6 million ($32.5 million total) Budget: $1.8 million
  5. Going the Distance: $6.9 million ($6.9 million total) Budget: n/a

previous post----
A few new movies hit theaters this weekend.

Going the Distance
Why it might be a hit: Seems funny.
Why it might tank: I thought it came out a long time ago.

The American
Why it might be a hit: Seems like a good "adjusting to the Fall season movie."
Why it might tank: Maybe a good movie for DVD.

Machete
Why it might be a hit: Steven Seagal is back in a motion picture.
Why it might tank: Looked better as a fake trailer to a movie that didn't exist.

My Predictions:
Going the Distance: $15 million
The American: $12 million
Machete: $11 million
Takers: $10 million
The Last Exorcism: $10 million
