Funny People Takes the Top Spot

Judd Apatow's Funny People, took the top spot at the box office this weekend. Although, a bit less than I expected. Seems this weekend is a little bit down from the same weekend last year as The Dark Knight still reigned in it's third weekend with $42 million and The Mummy 3 debuted with $40 million.

In other news, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince managed to take G-Force's number two spot. And it has also slipped pass Star Trek to become the 4th highest grossing movie in the U.S. Meanwhile, The Hangover also passed Star Trek putting it in 3rd place, but not for long, as the Hogwart's wizard will most likely surpass it by this week.

Weekend Estimates:
Funny People: $23.4 million ($23.4 million total)
Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince: $17.7 million ($255.5 million total)
G-Force: $17.1 million ($66.5 million)
The Ugly Truth: $13 million ($54.5 million total)
Aliens in the Attic: $7.8 million ($7.8 million total)
----
A couple of new movies hits theaters this weekend, including one, supposedly funny movie.

Funny People
Why it might be a hit: Director Judd Apatow is no stranger to comedy as his last two movies, Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin, grossed almost $400 million worldwide combined.
Why it might Tank: This flick seems more like a dramedy then a comedy.

Aliens in the Attic
Why it might be a hit: Kids movies seem to do well in the summer.
Why it might tank: Even for a kids movie, it doesn't look that great.

My Predictions:
Funny People: $31 million
G-Force: $16 million
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: $15 million
The Ugly Truth: $14 million
Aliens in the Attic: $8 million
