Bruno Tops the Box Office

Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno topped the box office this weekend. With Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, following closely behind. An interesting note, however, is that Bruno made half of its estimated $30 million weekend on Friday alone, allowing for a steep drop off on Saturday and Sunday. Hrmm.... We'll have to wait to see how this plays out.

Meanwhile, the other newcomer, I Love You, Beth Cooper, managed to make about $5 million for a 7th place finish.

Weekend Estimates:
Bruno: $30.4 million ($30.4 million total)
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: $28.5 million ($120.6 million total)
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: $24.2 million ($339.2 million total)
Public Enemies: $14.1 million ($66.5 million total)
The Proposal: $10.5 million ($113.8 million total)

-----

"Borat was so 2006," as Bruno would say. Two new movies hit theaters this weekend. And one of them is, of course, Bruno. And the other is I Love You Beth Cooper.

Bruno
What it has going for it: Sacha Baron Cohen's previous effort, Borat made $26 million on opening weekend and went on to make over $128 million total. Bruno is getting mostly positive reviews.
What is has to work against: Borat was something different at the time. Now we are "like totally" aware of what to expect.

I Love You Beth Cooper
What it has going for it: Ummm... low budget, familiar story, teen comedy.
What it has to work against: That people know it's coming out this weekend

My Predictions:
Bruno: $28 million
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs: $22 million
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen: $19 million
Public Enemies: $14 million
I Love You Beth Cooper: $8 million
