Album Review: NIN - The Slip

NIN's latest album The Slip, is taking advantage of the whole online propaganda set forth by Radiohead's In Rainbows release. What this means is that NIN is offering their new album for free, you don't even have to name a price. Just go to their website. What's interesting here is that you can choose what file you want; instead of just downloading an mp3, you can download very high quality Flac files too. My guess is that NIN is big enough of a band to give their entire album away for free. I'm pretty sure they're betting on merchandising and tour profits.
Now, onto the review. Let me say first, that I'm not the hardcore NIN fan, but I do like a lot of their songs. I saw them at Coachella, and thought they were good. As for their newest album The Slip. I think it is an interesting effort. There are great beats and great melodies. However, I did find it hard to listen to this album because of their heavy use of distortion. Especially on the song 'Letting You.' It is probably the most interesting song on the album, but the heavy distortion, keeps me from liking it too much.
