Movie Review: Sunshine

From director Danny Boyle(Trainspotting, The Beach, 28 Days Later), comes his latest offering about a group of astronauts headed to the sun to fix its dying light. Although this happens in the near future(scientists expect the sun to last billions of years), this does propose an interesting idea of what civilization is going to do when the sun does eventually die off. However, as for the actual movie, it doesn't really hold its value. It starts off slow, which is fine, because there isn't really any real threat. Then suddenly there is a bunch a calamities, which seem written specifically to kill people off. And if that wasn't enough, there is an addition in the third act which I can't say I agree with, and turns this into another film. The style and shot pacing changes here also, keeping me confused as to what's happening onscreen. I'll keep the rest of that hush, just incase you might want to watch it. Sunshine is a great idea, and there are great parts to this film, but ultimately it falls a little short.
