The 10 Best Music Videos of 2012

Let's start off the end of year lists with the 10 Best Music Videos of 2012.

So, you've been perusing other Best Videos of 2012 lists, and they all seem a bit similar, with the same three songs in the top spots (Though, I do like the M.I.A. video for Bad Girls).  I like style, uniqueness and a story.  The greatest asset of creating a music video is how experimental, but yet functional it can be.  I think most of these video's I've chosen, exemplify that in some way.

I've combed through a lot of music videos, a chunk of crazy K-pop videos on full visual assault, to a lot of boring Indie videos filtered with that Techincolor look. And of course, I looked at the big-budget world of Pop music.  I may be missing some, but here is my list for the 10 Best Music Videos of 2012:

Just off this list: Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe, PSY - Gangnam Style, Of Monsters and Men - Little Talks, tUnE-yArDs - My Country, M.I.A. - Bad Girls, BT - 13 Angels On My Broken Windowsill

The Top 10:

10) Josh Ritter - Love Is making Its Way Back Home
Created from over 12,000 pieces of construction paper, with no effects added in post and it also tells a story too.

9) Coldplay - Hurts Like Heaven
Amazing comic book creation. Blending 2D and 3D illustrations for a unique music video that must have taken a while to complete.

8) The Shins - Simple Song
Reminds me little of The Royal Tenenbaums in the humorist fact of dysfunctional siblings reuniting for a reading of their dad's will.

7) Katy Perry - Wide Awake
The Alice in Wonderland slash fantasy themed big budget video is the most pop video on this list. It's funny, has great sets, and of course brings your inner girl out... well, if you're a girl.

6) Robbie Williams - Candy
A brilliant idea that is done technically well. Reminds me of Michel Gondry's Kylie Minogue video for Come Into My World, though not as mind-blown... still good though.

5) Justice - New Lands
A throw back to John Carpenter days. This video is about a Baseball/Football/Rugby/Roller Derby sport that's pretty epic.

4) Lana Del Rey - Ride
This video feels like I'm watching a Paul Thomas Anderson movie, with all it's beauty and sadness perfectly bringing the song to life.

3) Swedish House Mafia - Greyhound
Yes, money does make a music video great... It's like Tron meets Mad Max meets a dog race... sick.

2) Bjork - Mutual Core
I don't know how this didn't make any of those other lists. It's brilliant and unique. This director's style perfectly matches Bjork's eccentricities. This is art.

1) Kill the Noise - Kill the Noise Part 1
The Zombie apocalypse... Over-stylized gore... Neon lights... and a boom box cannon. How can you not go wrong. Easily, the most awesome video of 2012.
