The Social Network Finds new Friends in Second Week

David Fincher's Facebook drama, The Social Network, held on to the top spot this weekend at the box office, beating newcomers, "there's-no-other-Rom-Com-playing-so-let's-see-this-one," Life as We Know It and the Seabiscuit wannabe, Secretariat.

This second week statistics bodes well for the Oscar buzzed Social Network as it only dropped 30 percent from last weekend, and may continue raking in more box office moolah.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. The Social Network: $15.5 million ($46.1 million total) Budget: $50 million
  2. Life as We Know It: $14.6 million ($14.6 million total) Budget: $38 million
  3. Secretariat: $12.6 million ($12.6 million total) Budget: $35 million
  4. Legend of the Guardians: $7 million ($39.4 million total) Budget: $80 million
  5. My Soul to Take: $6.9 million ($6.9 million total) Budget: $25 million

A famous horse and other movie battle it out this weekend at the box office.

Secretariat
Flop factor: 50%
Pros: Looks like it was shot well. That other horse movie, Seabiscuit, did well.
Cons: Viewing the trailer, it seems Disney has too nicely wrapped its "underdog" formula all over it.

Life as We Know It
Flop Factor: 75%
Pros: Formulaic romantic comedy
Cons: Formulaic romantic comedy

My Soul to Take
Flop Factor: 60%
Pros: Horror films are cheap usually... Wes Craven is back directing.
Cons: Where the hell has Wes Craven been all these years?

My Predictions
The Social Network: $16 million
Life as We Know it: $14 million
Secretariat: $12 million
Legend of the Guardians: $7 million
My Soul to Take: $7 million
