A Despicably Big Weekend At the Box Office

Universal's animated movie, Despicable Me, took in just over $60 million this weekend, surprising many movie analysts. Things are finally looking up for Universal, as most of their movies in the past year have been disappointing, box office wise.

Robert Rodriguez's (well producer anyway, but his name is marketed all over this movie) Predators also took in a nice amount of change, with about $25 million.

In other news, Toy Story 3 has now surpassed Alice in Wonderland to become the highest grossing movie of the year in North America, with about $340 million. All I know is that Disney (Toy Story 3 and Alice in Wonderland) is having one hell of a year, despite those expensive Jerry Bruckheimer disappointments.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. Despicable Me: $60.1 million ($60.1 million total) Budget: $69 million
  2. The Twilight Saga: Eclipse: $33.4 million ($237 million total) Budget: $68 million
  3. Predators: $25.3 million ($25.3 million total) Budget: $40 million
  4. Toy Story 3: $22 million ($340.2 million total) Budget: $200 million
  5. The Last Airbender: $17.2 million ($100.2 million total) Budget: $150 million

previous post-----
A couple new movies vie to take out The Twilight Saga: Eclipse from the top spot.

Despicable Me
Why it might be a hit: Awe, those cute little minions.
Why it might tank: Distributor Universal's past year, has been one of the worst in it's history. Hopefully they picked a good film this time around.

Predators
Why it might be a hit: The original Arnold Schwarzenegger film, is an awesome cult hit.
Why it might tank: Schwarzenegger isn't in this film?

My Predictions:
Despicable Me: $36 million
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse: $30 million
The Last Airbender: $20 million
Toy Story 3: $18 million
Predators: $16 million
