Shrek Takes Third Weekend

In what is now a slumping Hollywood box office, Shrek Forever After lead the post Memorial Day weekend with about $25 million, beating out newcomers, Get Him to the Greek and Killers, which place 2nd and 3rd.

Marmaduke came in 6th with $11 million and Splice came in 8th with just over $7 million.
The box office weekend is down 24% from last year when The Hangover debuted with $45 million.

Weekend Estimates:
  1. Shrek Forever After: $25.3 million ($183 million total) Budget: $165 million
  2. Get Him to the Greek: $17.4 million ($17.4 million total) Budget: $40 million
  3. Killers: $16.1 million ($16.1 million total) Budget: $75 million
  4. Prince of Persia: $13.9 million ($59.5 million) Budget: $200 million
  5. Sex and the City 2: $12.7 million ($73.4 million total) Budget: $100 million

There is a foursome of movies hitting theaters this post Memorial Day weekend.

Get Him to the Greek

Why it might be a hit: Getting decent reviews on rottentomatoes.
Why it might tank: Since Knocked Up and Superbad exploded to the big screen, all these, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, I Love You, Man, Role Models, type of movies have seems exactly the same, even though they are funny.

Killers
Why it might be a hit: It's got the same feel and director as The Ugly Truth, and that did decently well.
Why it might tank: Looks more of a rental than a theater experience. Also, Killers will not be screened for critics.

Marmaduke

Why it might be a hit: Based off of a comic strip.
Why it might tank: I am not too sure if kids are familiar with this strip.

Splice

Why it might be a hit: Online and festival buzz.
Why it might tank: Most online buzz films don't equate to success at the box office anymore.

My Predictions:
Killers: $25 million
Shrek Forever After: $24 million
Prince of Persia: $15 million
Sex and the City 2: $14 million
Marmaduke: $14 million
