James Cameron is King of the Box Office Once Again...

It was no surprise as Avatar, James Cameron's first movie since Titanic, took the number one spot this weekend with about $73 million and also taking in about $232 million worldwide. Thus, putting to rest those rumors that said this movie will flop. This is similar to much of what precluded the release of Titanic, when naysayers said the ill-fated ship movie will sink at the box office. And we all know how well that did. We'll see how well this movie will do over the coming weeks.

Weekend Estimates:
Avatar: $73 million ($73 million total)
The Princess and the Frog: $12.2 million ($44.8 million total)
The Blind Side: $10 million ($164.7 million total)
Did You Hear About the Morgans?: $7 million ($7 million total)
The Twilight Saga: New Moon: $4.4 millino ($274.6 million total)
----
Two movies head to theaters this weekend. One of them is a long awaited project from one of the biggest directors in movie history.

Avatar
Why it might be a hit: James Cameron directed Titanic 12 years ago, and that is still the highest grossing movie of all time.
Why it might tank: Film nerds weren't impressed with the trailer, however... good reviews and a Golden Globe nod for best film might entice them.

Did You Hear About the Morgans?
Why it might be a hit: It counters Avatar in target audience.
Why it might tank: Doesn't really look all that funny.

My Predictions:
Avatar: $75 million
The Princess and the Frog: $18 million
The Blind Side: $10 million
Did You Hear About the Morgans?: $10 million
Invictus: $6 million
