Box Office Weekend Retreat

In a rather surprising finish, Vince Vaughn's Couples Retreat took in over $35 million this weekend easily becoming top of the list. It say this is a mainly because it is currently scoring a 13% on Rotten Tomatoes (Yes, it means 87 % of critics don't like this movie). Then again Transformer's 2 did exceptionally well even though it also got panned by critics.

In other news, Paranormal Activity jumped... leaped... into the top 5 this weekend as it expanded into over a hundred fifty theaters. I guess the marketing is working well for this film.

Weekend Estimates:
Couples Retreat: $35.3 million ($35.3 million total)
Zombieland: $15 million ($47.8 million total)
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs: $12 million ($96.3 million total)
Toy Story / Toy Story 2: $7.7 million ($22.7 million total)
Paranormal Activity: $7 million ($8.3 million total)
-----
Only one new movie hits theaters this weekend.

Couples Retreat
Why it might be a hit: Vince Vaughn comedies seem to do decently well. And it's directed by A Christmas Story star Peter Bilingsley.
Why it might tank: Seems funny, but looks more a good DVD rental than putting up with seeing it in the theaters.

My Predictions:
Couples Retreat: $18 million
Zombieland: $16 million
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs: $10 million
Toy Story / Toy Story 2: $8 million
Surrogates: $4 million
