Academy Awards Predictions 2009

So... As you know, the Academy Awards arrives the 22nd of February, and the predictions will be overflowing as to who will win the coveted Oscar. Well, one can guess... And so can I. Here are my predictions for who will win. And I'll skip over some of them, just for your sake (not because I haven't seen any of the shorts or foreign films).

BEST VISUAL EFFECTS The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I don't recall The Dark Knight having a lot of visual effects due to the fact that Christopher Nolan tried to get all the effects in camera, and Iron Man had good visual effects but Transformers had better effects and it didn't win last year.

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Tough one, but I think David Fincher's film might edge out Slumdog Millionaire. Then again, Slumdog Millionaire is looking very strong right now.

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE WALL-E
Umm...Kung Fu Panda is good, but WALL-E stands out very much.

BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY Slumdog Millionaire, Simon Beaufoy

Tough pack to decide from, but the Slumdog Millionaire train will be strong here.

BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY WALL-E, Andrew Stanton, Jim Reardon, Pete Docter

I liked WALL-E a lot so there..

BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS Marisa Tomei, The Wrestler

This one is a shot in the dark since Kate Winslet is not in the running. So really this is more of a random guess than an educated one.

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR Heath Ledger, The Dark Knight

Definitely the best supporting performance of the year, glad to see Robert Downey Jr. getting nominated here as well.

BEST ACTRESS Kate Winslet, The Reader
Another tough category with most of the competition between Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep and Kate Winslet. In the end I think Kate Winslet will finally get her Oscar.

BEST ACTOR Mickey Rourke, The Wrestler
This is gonna be a toss up between Mickey Rourke and Sean Penn, but since Mickey Rourke is in his comeback year and Sean Penn already won for Mystic River, I'll say advantage Mickey.

BEST DIRECTOR Danny Boyle, Slumdog Millionaire
The Slumdog Millionaire train continues.

BEST PICTURE Slumdog Millionaire
The Curious Case of Benjiman Button will be close since it seems like a very Hollywood movie, but Slumdog Millionaire should win, because it's winning everything else.
